Brugere og kunder har ofte svært ved at lave andet end inkrementale ændringer (i modsætning til radikale innovationer). Hvilken proces kan facilitere en grundlæggende afdækning af kundens behov?

Hvis udgangspunktet er at forbedre et eksisterende eller udvikle et nyt produkt vil den brugerdrevne proces kun føre til inkrementelle forbedringer. Hvis bruger og udbyder i fællesskab formulerer en fælles vision for hvilket behov ( ikke nødvendigvis kundens ) de ønsker at adressere, kan brugerinvolvering godt føre til radikal innovation.
