Mange ejer- og lejerforeninger oplever store problemer med kommunikation med og mellem beboerne, herunder engagement i foreningens udvikling, håndtering af problemer og at forholde sig til fælles beslutninger. Denne idé går på at involvere beboerne i disse foreninger via åben innovation, og dermed skabe et direkte ejerskab for foreningens udvikling.
En sådan involvering kræver en refinering af bestyrelsens rolle - Bestyrelsen fungerer nu ikke kun som beslutningsorgan, men også som facilitator af en bredt forankret udviklingsproces.
